We're going to talkabout Adsense. Adsense is a given money maker but how much money will depend on how much time you are willing to devote to it!
Ideally Adsense works best on sites that will get visitors because they represent a place (city, state etc) or entity (service business, etc) that people have to have. In other words, the city of San Diego's website would work good using Adsense to make money because by the nature of what it represents, its' going to be getting lots of traffic. Volume based websites, (hi traffic sites) Adsense will bring in some money. But there is a learning curve or other types of sites, and a long wait time in the process of developing a high traffic website. You must wait for for backlinks to develop. Otherwise you'll only make pennies a day.
Making money with your website is an art you perfect. And you do it by finding your own personal method. There are a number of ways to do it and that's the problem, only one, or a small number of those ways will work for your particular kind of website, its business and the bigger pay outs. Your job is to find which methods work best for your website and how to apply them to your product(s). Be sure you read my other blogs about marketing your site. There are numerous processes you must learn, developthat and bring together in order to successfully market your site. And, numerous ways of bringing attention to the product(s) that sit on your website waiting for a buyer. Some products are more lucrative than others and some website concepts are more attractive than others. I'm sure you already know about Adsense, that it is run by Google, and that the ads are shown to an individual based on the interest they have revealed by the websites they visit or the things they click on.
Contributor is a new addition to the Google Website monotising program. Here's how it works.
Internet patrons opt in to paying a small fee (very small) to keep their time on the internet free of ads. The equivalent of commercial free Television or commercial free radio. That's it in a nutshell. We offer it on Jimisound.com. Here are the details. Contributor is new, brand new, as in only a few days new when this blog was posted. In fact you can date it by the date of this blog. I just got notification of it from Google yesterday.
Along with Contributor comes "Richer Text Ads". Richer text ads happen automatically if you are using any combination of text & image ads. This product is designed to increase your revenue per click. It works by increasing the bid competition among merchants for ad space on your website. The more traffic your site gets the higher the price for ad space there, right? Yes, and that holds true when you personallly offer ad space to mardeters and businesses on your website. In the past those with image banners were relegated to ad space that you allocated for banners that have images.
You designated other places on your site for text ads. Merchants and advertisers were pretty much stuck with the page and location you had set aside for their choice of ad message, text or image. With Richer Text Ads that won't matter anymore. Wherever the marketer or merchant's ad is on your site, it will transform based on the visitors M.O. The ad will transform itself into their choice of ads, text or image.
Pretty good stuff. If in that ad space there is a text ad, it will turn itself into an image ad based on the visitors preferrence and the advertiser's brand, trade mark etc. Now as I write this I'm assuming everybody already knows about Adsense and how it works, however before the end I'll provide all the information you need to learn more about Adsense and how to get started using it, in case some of you are just getting started with developing online revenue streams using Adsense.
For you more seasoned Adsense users let me take you back about a year and a half ago to when Adsense announced it's "Magazine Ad unit". Do you remember it? With the magazine ad unit they stated this change was directed at publishers who insisted on using image ads only. Google introduced the magazine ad to increase bidding among banner ad advertisers and text ad advertisers for the same space on your site.
A move designed to increase its own revenue and yours as an Adsense publisher. You can review that here. The introduction of Mag Ads did not address per click revenue increases for publishers who chose to use the image & text ads. For them the bidding remained the same. By the way, for those of you who may be a little lost when I use the term bidding, here's how that works.
Advertisers get to choose which sites their ads appear on.
If the publishers of a site allow Adsense ads, then that site is shown to adsense advertisers as an option for their ad. If the adsense advertiser's budget can afford to advertise on your site and they place the highest bid to get on your site then their ad appears on your site. How much an advertiser bids on your site often depends on their level of SEO knowledge.
This explains why there are different earnings per ad click when you check your Adsense revenue. The more they know about SEO the wiser their choices will be when picking sites to advertise on. Advertisers are willing to bid higher for sites that exemplify or in other words relate to their brand or product(s). But, sites with great potential, or have the potential to grow and dominate in their genre can attract higher payout per click too. Even before they've had time to develop backlinks and higher traffic.
Of course every advertiser wants their ad showing up on the sites with the most traffic. However some sites by their nature will not have high traffic numbers. However, small as their numbers may be, visitors they get are highly sought after for their conversion potential, and for that reason those sites can attract higher bids. Otherwise Google will show your visitor an ad they've exhibited interest in at some point prior to visiting your site or another site they've visited. Your earning per click may be less for those clicks. Now getting back to Richer Text Ads. The competition will increase among advertisers who choose sites that designate a space where they will allow either ad type, text or image.
on your site. Your earnings will increase if you've got traffic to your site, not may increase. But again, it all hinges on your website marketer and their skill at getting traffic to your website. No traffic, no income. Developing traffic to a website is one thing, keeping traffic to a webste is another.
Both are large investments of time. Ultimately what this means is the ad space available on your website gains equity, increases in value over time. This brings you closer to the concept of "renting out" ad space on your site directly( personally), without having to actually go through the steps yourself. Renting ad space directly works well with sites that have high traffic. It's not going to pay as well as it would had you contacted advertisers and sold them space on your site, but it is an additional and likely increase in earnings just the same.
As per Google: "This new ad format, inspired by material design, adheres closely to the advertiser’s brand by using their logos and brand colors. This enables brand advertisers who are particularly sensitive to how their text advertisements are displayed, to spend more on the Google Display Network, thereby increasing competition for the ad units on your site." You can visit the page here. I love when Google does something to increase publisher revenue. Its just so low. God knows how hard you work and how important it is for us to spend less time thinking about how to cover operating expenses and more time on making the best decisions for the business itself. One day, maybe you can sell enough ad space on your site(s) to pay your mortgage.
More About Contributor
Whereas Richter Text Ads went into effect August of 2015, Contributor just went into effect November 2015. Contributor is actually a NEW SOURCE OF REVENUE for your website. It is experimental and at the least shows Google's concern that the quality of content on the Web includes a concern about keeping the Webs best contributors funded. To entice you to keep your website up if it's contributing to a worthwhile cause.
I've seen websites with excellent content just die out. They die out because it's hard to make a living online. People are self-focused by nature and aren't concerned about whether your online business is here tomorrow to serve them as long as it's here today. All they want to do is go online and find what they want. If they can't get it from you, they'll just go somewhere else for it. Their objective is obtain what they've set their mind ot obtain.
But we all know that nothing is free. Somewhere someone is paying the price for what you think of as free and online, and that someone is the publisher. The publishers are us, the purveyors and providers of online content, the experts and givers of time and labor to help keep the Web what it is. But all too often now, it is becoming the norm for us to go unrewarded for our hard work. We work for extremely long periods of time. But, we are the pioneers, the early entrepreneurs and I think that's how we'll be viewed in history a hundred years from now. It is good to see Google and other successful large technology companies who can make a difference making decisions and introducing resources we can all use that help publishers make more money. But, Google is mostly looking out for itself. Truth.
In doing so, they are being leaders, leaders on the Internet, protecting it AND managing processes there. I view Contributor as an excellent move in the right direction. I hope it works and I hope it is adopted by other Internet leaders on the Web. Here's more on how it works. Contributor is "an experiment in additional ways to fund the web".
With it users pick a monthly contribution level of, $2, $5, $10. However they can spend any amount they want.
The more they spend, the more they're guaranteed fewer ads in their internet experience. You on the other hand might want to cut back on ads outside of the Adsense network in respect of your opt in with Contributor. You'll have to take a look at how you're running the ad network on your site. If you're like me you have contracted with various merchants to show their ads. I'd lose the ones that don't draw any clicks. Just be careful, maybe they're not getting clicked because of the low traffic on your site. But, here again, that will depend on the nature of your website.
When you opt in to Contributor you are agreeing with Google to show fewer ads on your site to paying users. You get paid from their contributions whenever they visit your site. It's a win win. They see fewer ads and you still get paid. Nobody clicks anything, you get paid every time a "contributor program participant" visits your site. Cool huh?
So, once again, when a "non" contributor visits your site, your Adsense ads automatically awaken and show themselves. However, they lay dormant on a contributor's screen. Alright, one more time. "Here’s how it works: When Contributor users visit a site in Google’s network, their monthly contribution is used to bid on their behalf in the ad auction—so they end up buying the ad slot rather than a traditional advertiser. The more they contribute, the fewer ads they see, and you still get paid." (Google) Now as long as Google is splitting the actual bidded amount you should be paid by a sliding scale based on the winning bids for your sites and spaces. This would mean you're getting paid, and at higher earnings whether there's clicks on your site or not. Sound good? Okay, here's how you opt in to support Google's Contributor.
As always thanks for visiting my website(s) and good luck with your website(s).
